Writer So-yeon Park

Korean Authors   Writer So-yeon Park   2022.01.03     Please introduce yourself to our readers.   Hello, my name is So-yeon Park. I write and offer lectures for people who work. I have written various books including High Performers Know How to Stay Simple: Working Habits of Top Performers (GILBUT Publishers) and I am also the CEO of Mentor Grace.   Why did you become a writer?   I came to a turning point and asked myself whether I would like to move forward after 12 years of working for a company. My answer to the question previously would have been to stay at work without question, but when I was given the choice, I started to feel that I didn't want to be doing this for the next 5, 10, 20 years. So I wondered what kind of business I would be able to start without any capital, and then I thought that writing something and giving lectures based on the content would work out fairly well - that is why I became a writer.   Do you ha...

Writer Yoo Eun sil

Korean Authors   Writer Yoo Eun sil   2022.01.03     Please introduce yourself to our readers.   Hello, this is Yoo Eun sil, a chidren’s book writer. I am forty eight this year. It's been 23 years since I started writing books. It’s been 16 years since I published my first book.   What do you think children’s book writers are?   "They should be on the children’s side." I don’t think children’s book writers should be neutral. For example, there are writers that talk about the difficulties of parenting. They submit those books for competition. Being in a position to complain about the grievances of adults - I don't think it's children's literature.   My Doksan-dong       How was your childhood?   I lived on the outskirts of Seoul in the 1980s, in Doksan-dong. There were small businesses between residential areas. That was my neighborhood. My friends' parent...

Writer Kim Lily

Korean Authors   Writer Kim Lily   2021.12.06     Please introduce yourself to our readers.   Hello. My name is Kim Lily, a children’s author as well as a rice cake shop owner who wrote My d’Artagnan (Changbi), Puff Snacks are Here (Munhakdongne), and Manbok’s Rice Cake Shop Series (BIR).   Did the memories from your childhood influence your works?   When I was young, I was a skinny, not pretty to look at, and not a bright girl. I think that is why I went through some difficult times. But whenever those times hit me, I survived by imagining things. At the time I remember desperately wishing for my wishes to come true. I do write many stories about wishes by reminiscing on those days.   Why did you dream of becoming a children’s book author?   I had this idea that a children’s book author is someone who ‘grows the flower garden of the imagination’. Since I had many siblings, I was sent to the countryside alone and spen...

Writer Park Yeon-jun

Korean Authors   Writer Park Yeon-jun   2021.12.06     Please introduce yourself to our readers.   Hello, my name is Park Yeon-jun. I write poems and prose, and now I am writing novels, too.   Why did you decide to become a writer?   I think I have always loved stories since I was young. That is why I was interested in writing, reading, and listening to others. Among those, I found that reading interested me the most and I think that led me to become a writer.   What do you think is the most important thing when you write?   The reason empathy is vital is that you need to think from the perspective of a chair when you are writing a poem. Not how men would view an ordinary chair. The sadness and the form of the chair from its perspective; the people who stay for a while and leave the chair must think about various ideas like how the chair would feel. Even things in this studio, these small cables, lights, three of you sitting...

Writer Yi Hyeon

Korean Authors   Writer Yi Hyeon   2021.12.06     Please introduce yourself to our readers.   Hello, My name is Yi Hyeon, author of children’s books and youth novels. Nice to meet you.   Why do you write youth novels?   People often talk about middle schoolers’ 'puberty', 'youth', and 'the young generation' as if they were disorders, and always look at the young in such a way. Also, there seems to be a tendency to generalize about young people. Such is the world of youth. So, I wanted to write youth’s stories. That's also why I have recently been meeting with some students.   Do you remember any young adults?   I heard the “dating story” of a child in the third year of high school. It was a love story that hadn’t yet started. I listened and I was thrilled. And through his concerns he showed different thoughts. It was very nice to see the way he is being nurtured and developed.   How do you decide the story for your...

Author-illustrator Kim Sang Keun

Korean Authors   Author-illustrator Kim Sang Keun   2021.11.01     Please introduce yourself to our readers.   Hello, it is nice to meet you. My name is Kim Sang Keun. I am an illustrator as well as a writer.   What kind of person do you think an author is?   A picture book illustrator is an “Eoreune”. “Eoreune” is a compound word meaning adult and child. In English, it is “Kidult”. The reason for my answer is that both my childhood as well as my adulthood are present in myself. I think it is the subject closest to “Eoreune”.   Do you have a specific reason for deciding to pursue the study of animation?   Throughout my childhood, I tended to encounter cartoons and animation when I watched television. At that time, I liked and earnestly watched shows such as Disney Cartoon Series and other entertaining TV programs in the evening. I would draw the characters and watch the recorded version over and over again when I was ...
