Spring, Spring, The Camellias, and Gold-Mining Bean Field. Kim You-jeong's works, which almost every Korean reader has encountered at least once in school textbooks, continue to vividly convey the atmosphere of rural Korea and the warmth of its people. His delightful humor and empathetic perspective transcend language barriers, reaching global readers through translations, stage adaptations, and various cultural projects.

The Literary Village of Kim You Jeong

Located in Chuncheon, Gangwon State, The Literary Village of Kim You Jeong is a literary space built in the village where the author was born and raised. At the restored birthplace and exhibition halls, visitors can explore his life and literary world, while walking trails that evoke scenes from his novels weave throughout the village. Taking a stroll through the village brings visitors face-to-face with landscapes where the characters from his stories feel as though they might step out at any moment.

Unlike typical memorial halls, The Literary Village of Kim You Jeong has established itself as a complex cultural facility. In addition to exhibition rooms offering a glimpse into the author's birthplace and creative process, it offers hands-on activities such as leather crafting, bead crafting, and pottery making. As you wander around, you will uncover unexpected stories set in Sille Village, the author's hometown.

Gimyujeong Station

The old Gimyujeong Station, located within walking distance of the village, is a perfect spot to savor the remaining mood of your trip. The aged station building and railway tracks create an atmosphere that feels frozen in time, while the book cafe and exhibition space offer a special haven for book lovers.

Gimyujeong Railbike

For a slightly more special experience, the Gimyujeong Railbike at Gangchon Rail Park comes highly recommended. Following the old Gyeongchun Line tracks, the course cuts through the Bukhan River and surrounding forests, offering a unique transition from the landscapes of literature to real-world nature. In particular, the various themed tunnels and riverside scenery remain consistently popular with families on summer trips as well as international tourists.
